Fisherman’s Suite is a musical story told in five fun pieces, each focusing on a specific technical element of harp playing. Designed for beginning harpists, the suite gently introduces essential techniques in an imaginative, narrative context.
Each movement represents a different scene in the life of a fisherman — from the quiet waters to the joyful meal. Along the way, students explore phrasing, fingering patterns, rhythm, articulation, and tone production.
I composed the first piece, “The Fisherman,” in 1996 when I was 19, as part of a school project. The other movements were added later, expanding the original idea into a complete suite that blends storytelling with harp technique.
